VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You are giving a short talk on language learning. You will decide which activity is the best way to learn a new language. There are three options for you to choose: Join a class, Self-study, or Talk to native speakers.

- Answer:

I believe the best method for learning a new language is talking to native speakers. This approach offers real-life practice, promotes authentic pronunciation, and familiarizes learners with the culture behind the language.

Joining a class is beneficial for structured learning and provides an introduction to grammar rules, but it may lack real-life conversational practice. Self-study offers flexibility, but can be challenging due to a lack of immediate feedback and the potential for misunderstandings or mistakes to be perpetuated.

However, conversing with native speakers provides immediate feedback and correction, while also promoting understanding of the language's cultural nuances. It gives a learner a more holistic view of the language and encourages faster acquisition due to constant practice. Plus, it could be more engaging and fun, as it often involves meeting new people and understanding their cultures. So, despite the benefits of classes and self-study, I believe direct interaction with native speakers is the most effective way to learn a language.
